AAARGGH Matey!

Planning for
Halloween has begun!

As we plan on being in NOLA for this great occasion, what better applicable costume for this historic town, but a PIRATE?

I have sourced the jackets for both our outfits- Thadd's base will be black with a brocade lapel trim and detailed with gold trim and buttons. Mine will be red.

And of course, the outfit is ALL ABOUT THE DETAILS and ACCESSORIES...  so we will add pirate boots, tricorn hat, beads, keys (to the treasure chest of course), flask & cup, belt and sash...

Watch this blog for updates on costume progress!

First thing is to order the capelines for our pirate tri-corns
- we have decided on either a rust or wine color for Thadd's hat.  Mine I am still considering, as I am incorporating a 4' steel model of the Black Pearl into my hat.

When suddenly you realize the "mini-me" fallacy...

Raising good kids is hard.  And after 20+ years of it, I had that "AH-HA" moment that I realized that no matter how much you poke & prod, your child will never fit in your "mold".

My son.  One wonderful, terrific young man.  Does he frustrate me?  YES.  Am I proud of him? DEFINITELY!

Take for example the email he sent to me and his Dad ( excerpts of below).

"Wow!" is all I could say after I read it, and "who knew?"

__________________________________________

"I want to be able to explore the stars. I want to see what the hell is out there in vast expanse that is the universe. If I can't then I want to die knowing, and be known as a crucial part in the events leading up to this vital eventuality."

(referring to Elon Musk)..
"I share the same beliefs, as well as aspirations for humanity as a species. I want his dreams to happen because they are my dreams. But unfortunately, I don't think many people share these beliefs or hold a dream of humanity reaching to the heavens and conquering the unknown. This is a problem. Government position candidates, at-least in American, base campaigns on popular opinion. Regardless of the mass opinion on hot-topics like gun-control, gay marriage, marijuana, police regulation, etc., if we can get the majority to say to their congressman, senator, "I think we need to explore space and colonize other planets.", instead of "I want you to help legalize pot so I can get stoned all day, sitting on the couch and being lazy, without fearing SWAT kicking in my door." than we can help advance humanity as a species. If helping humanity step-up to the next level isn't a good aspiration, than I don't know what it."

and then finally,
"Dad, we can do something that is above having our names on film credits. I think that we can be the architects of one of the major pillars of civilization: Culture. I want to do this with you, with mom. We can do it as a family. I want our names etched into the history of the universe. I'm a firm believer in the saying, "You die twice, once when your body ceases function, and finally when your name is said for the last time." I don't want my name and accomplishments to die when my grandchildren die, and I don't want yours or moms to either. I want the Turner family to be remembered forever. I want the Turner family to watch and help advance humanity for eons to come. I want children, thousands, if not millions of years in the future to learn, "Thadd, Cindy, and Wyatt Turner cultivated global culture into one that supported space exploration and colonization, ultimately helping humanity expand beyond Earth.""

My son. Simply Amazing!!

Writing your 'Story'

Inspiring words: "Life is a Story- Make Yours a Bestseller"....

...but what genre are you creating? Comedy, Drama, Tragedy, Satire, Romance, Tragicomedy?   Would your book be a PAGE TURNER?

My own life path has taken it's share of turns, bumps, and peaks. My book, as yours may also, is ALL genres...  what would your life be like if it was all comedy or all romance...  (besides impossible to happen).

I consider it all a 'learning experience', and look forward to the SECOND ACT (or is it the 3rd or 4th act?!).  And, my family is working hard to create an awesome FINALE and this quote seems to sum that up:

"In life we can have RESULTS or REASONS.
Does your life have RESULTS or does it have REASONS?

Roswell Movie Studios

We have now been in Roswell for 30 days, and it has come to my attention that I have not shared WHY we are here!

Along with partners, we are developing a movie studio that will service southern New Mexico!  Land has been purchased and we are setting up shop in a warehouse/ production office building location south of the acreage.  The build will occur in stages: western set, sound stage, and then more support businesses that will remain confidential at this time- stay tuned for release of this information soon!

Follow along with the growth of our studio on the website/blog: Roswell Movie Studios.

We are open for business now with newly remodeled production offices!

Sopaipilla or Beignets?

Now that we are back in New Mexico, we are getting our fill of green chile stew vs NOLA gumbo, but now the question is:

Sopaipilla or Beignet?

They are similar, but I am voting for beignet- while I am not a donut eater, they lean more towards donut pastry vs the sopaipilla is more bread dough.

What is YOUR VOTE?

Full Circle

You are encapsulated in the fetal position, buried, & either a tree or tree seed is planted above your capsule.
You can be a Christmas tree in 30 years for your descendants... then recycled into mulch and wood chips for a new tree!

"Diamond Rose"

Today we received a Letter of Intent for our romantic comedy synopsis, "Diamond Rose".

This is co-written by Thadd and me- here is the tag line:

When a once popular actress becomes unemployable, her desperate manager sends her to a New Mexico horse ranch to learn how to be a real cowgirl for a Western movie where she meets the ranch owners, three bachelor brothers vying for her attention.

NOW the hardest part- taking our 4 page synopsis and fleshing it out into a full script!

HELP WELCOME: Have some comedic dating stories- send them my way and I will incorporate them in!

Oregon Day 8 continues: Hurrah for Veterans!

Our trip coming to an end, Mom & Dad took us out to get our fill of the wonderful local fish & chips, and on the way we stopped to see the Florence Veteran Memorial Wall, which is located in the Florence Old Town area right on the river.

We were challenged to find Dad's stone among the other veteran listings:

Awesome Legacy.

Oregon Day 8: Boogying on the Sand Dunes!

Determined to try Sand Boarding, we were on the 'slopes' by 8am... a BEAUTIFUL blue sky day with NO WIND!  Yeah!

First thing you must do to sand board is to CLIMB the sand dune... a sport all its own!  You need to find a dune with minimum 25% angle.. the slight grade will not do.  Wax your board, then straight down you go!

It is a fun sport- but will take more than one afternoon to master.  Both Wyatt and I take home some sore muscles, aching feet, and me a bruised tail-bone!  Guess no PAIN, no GAIN!

We took some hilarious videos.. sorry, will reserve for my own viewing pleasure!

Oregon Day 7: From where does your WIND blow?

Started day 7 by dropping of my sister, Pam at the airport.

Back to Florence, we were digging the warm sun on the patio, and after lunch decided to go rent some Sand Boards and hit the dunes.

BUT... much too windy... pummeled by sand to point that we had to bail, and went back to the house to hang and do some computer work.

A GOOD DAY!

Oregon Day 6: South to Charleston

Charleston Fisherman's Wharf
Oregon Day 6 we jumped on 101 South, destination Charleston.
Hip-hopping down the coast, we first stopped at Winchester Bay and Umpqua Lighthouse Park.
Arriving at Charleston at lunch time, we walked the docs first, watching people toss out their crabbing cages, marveled at the clear jellyfish in the bay, and took some amazing bay pictures.
On the return trip, we first stopped at Cranberry Sweets Candy Store, where they have samples out for EVERYTHING they sell!  I had my chocolate sugar rush on when we left!
We stopped at an elk refuge- amazing the size of their velvet antlers!
And finally, went to the overlook at Cape Arago, and sighted a whale just of the shore!  Yeah!
A GOOD DAY!

Oregon Day 3: the Docks.

Another adventure in Florence Old Town district.  We had awesome chowder at Mo's then explored the docks, before heading to Eugene to pick up my sister, Pam.

NOT the best picture, but hey...  Mo's.

Loved this "Art Deco" boat!

Wyatt also got a fresh CRAB COCKTAIL from the fresh crab vendor.
