Happy Halloween!

We had a GREAT 2-day Halloween celebration, which included walking in a parade down the streets of the French Quarter.  Our pirate costumes were well received and we are sure to repeat the performance during the year at other parades & events.

(NOTE- pirate hats were also made by me hand blocked from wool capes, and hand-trimmed and decorated.  After two hats completed, I am ready to take orders for these pirate tri-corns!  Place your order via my Etsy store.)

Digital Pandemic

Check out this series of photos from photographer Eric Pickersgill title "Removed".

While he staged the photo shoots, he created them from every-day situations as he observed how while cell phones and technology has given us obvious benefits, a social 'disconnect' is occuring...

Having grown up without technology (err.. showing my age..)  when you look at these pictures, I can only think of how the scene would play out prior to 'portable tech'. .. instead of staring at the screen, or talking on the phone, we would TALK and LOOK at the person in our company!

Thanks Eric for a great social statement!

Skeletons!

You know how you throw the family in the car during the Christmas season and go look at lights?
Well in NOLA you do the same sort of thing during Halloween week!

The big mansions really put on a show!  Check out this one with about 30 skeletons. I think because not everyone would figure out the pun- they had labels.  Which one is your favorite?

Lucy's 'Half-Brother'

Boots- just another day on the job.
From a post on Facebook, we have discovered a relative of Lucy, our blue heeler.  Apparently this handsome fellow is from a litter after Lucy- from the same mother... not sure of the dad.

I can tell from the pic that they ARE cut from the same cloth... "BOOTS" lives in Tucson.

Would love for them to meet some day!

Lucy- loves the park and rolling in the grass!

Blackball the word "BUT"

“The only limits to the possibilities in your life tomorrow are the buts you use today.”
                                                 ― Les Brown

Definition of BUT (as conjunction):
1. used to introduce something contrasting with what has already been mentioned.
2. used to indicate the impossibility of anything other than what is being stated.

Synonyms: yet, nevertheless, nonetheless, even so, however, still, notwithstanding, despite that, in spite of that, for all that, all the same, just the same.

Think about it... the word is a cop-out...  an excuse... easy way to avoid...

Another good quote:
“My brother once told me that nothing someone says before the word ..‘but’ really counts.„
                                                                                    — Benjen Stark

TODAY your mission is to
BLACKBALL the word "BUT".

So excited to be back in THE BIG EASY, and we celebrated at our favorite oyster hang-out, Superior Seafood with our favorite shucker... gobbling down 4 trays of raw oysters!

We also started on the Halloween porch decorations-

"FRANK" is now set-up to enjoy NOLA Halloween parades and trick-a-treaters!
